crit feedback reflection (aural cultures)

During the class crit, hearing what other peoples papers were like and hearing the feedback from the other students was very helpful in getting an idea of what it is we’re trying to do with these audio papers. Also, showing my own audio paper in its current stage was also of course useful, in that even me knowing that the crit was happening made me work to actually have something to show for that day, as well as allowing me to have a clear idea of what I still need to do with it. The last time I worked on my audio paper before the crit, I was over thinking what to say and it wasn’t sounding natural in the recordings (because I’m not very comfortable with recording my voice), but having a clearer idea of what it is I’m saying and doing with this audio paper has allowed me to be a bit more confident in speaking in the audio paper. Especially hearing my friends audio paper where he spoke about a comparison between Haitian voodoo and acid house music, because the way he was speaking was very documentary style and with purpose, and I think that is how I need to approach my speaking in my audio paper.

The feedback I got from others on what they liked about my audio paper also gave me reassurance in my decisions with the audio paper so far, and also reassured me in my ideas of what I still needed to add, such as talking about the history of the splayed genre and key figures in the timeline.
