This idea was focused on an ancient Maltese religion which focused on the duality of night and day/ life and death/ black and white. This religion was discovered in recent times through the discovery of one of the worlds oldest temples called the Hypogeum. Specifically the room called the Oracle room which was found to resonate the frequency 111hz (which has been shown to produce a trance-like, meditative state. people will be able to walk in the room and feel the delay modulation reacting to their motion.
the sound piece I will create to be running on loop on the raspberry pi that will be focusing on 111hz, but I want it to be something that the delay modulation will be noticeable on.
The idea of the piece will be to get away from how organised/ structured and enforced religions have become over time with scriptures, texts and rules.
Aesthetically I want the room to convey a feeling of religion using a variety of conventions of spiritual places (such as burning incense, having walls with a slightly yellowish/ sand/ orange tone. I want some bean bags for people to sit in the room and just take it in and receive it however they naturally do. I want to try reduce the aesthetic presence of the technology that will be present in the room, so I will do this by covering the speakers and cables with sheets/ fabric.
Based on this room I want to create a re-contextualisation of this idea to create an un-restricted possibly spiritual experience for the visitor.
Hardware needed: quadrophonic speaker set up, raspberry pi connected to motion sensors which will modulate delay connected to the sound playing.
connectivity – raspberry pi connected to an interface (USB?) connected to speakers, speakers with power cables in wall or extension lead.
