  • topic – how listening to experimental music can challenge ‘the other’ / ‘the unknown’ by pushing boundaries/ expectations and therefore being more open – using the 60’s free jazz movement in America as an example of the change in thinking that can be caused by music that pushes perspective and understanding.
  • ‘how did the development of free jazz in the 60’s broaden perspectives of ‘the other’?
  • examples of: Sun Ra, Ornette Coleman (and the influence he had on John Coltrane, plus the influence John Coltrane had), & Pharoah Sanders
  • situate the context of the research such as place and time period and context beforehand to the movement.
