research so far for audio paper

My research for my audio paper has been about free jazz as a whole, and trying to find documentation of the impact this music has had on peoples minds. For this I will also conduct primary research by interviewing various artists who have been impacted by free-jazz, and asking them about this impact and how it has affected their thinking. The artists I plan to interview are: muva of Earth, jkarri & I am also going to attempt to conduct an interview with Maxwell Sterling & Kenichi Iwasa if possible, as they are two musicians that I highly admire (who I’ve had the honour of collaborating with on a project) and who I know have definitely been impacted significantly by the Free-Jazz & Avant-garde jazz movements (so much so that Iwasa even uses some of Don Cherry’s original horns). I think conducting these interviews will give me an opportunity to ask exactly what I want to know about first hand experiences of musicians and how they feel about the point I’m trying to make in my audio paper.

The musicians I want to focus on historically in the 60’s free jazz movement are Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane & Sun Ra, as these are 3 vital figures in this movement who have had significant impacts in the lineage of this idea/ movement. I will also look into other significant artists such as Pharoah Sanders, Albert Ayler, Milford Graves & Roscoe Mitchell (& the art ensemble of Chicago as a whole). For this research I have been listening to albums, reading books, and going over interviews.
