musical influence 3: The Art Ensemble of Chicago

This group was introduced to me by Milo, I had heard their name around before but hadn’t listened to their music yet, and Milo showed me ‘Theme de yoyo’, which has a very interesting part in its structure where there are these horn sweeps that seem to glide through almost every note in a seemingly short space of time.

This small section with its dissonant sweep was very appealing to me and was the part in particular that Milo wanted to show me, how they went between harmony and dissonance so perfectly, and how it was this moving between that showed their control, and this inspired me to slightly re think my approach towards my project, as instead of having 4 tracks of chaos and dissonance and 4 tracks of harmony melody and minimalism, instead I would try combine these tracks to make it so that they cut between these two points on this axis, and attempt to seamlessly move from one direction to the complete opposite.
