A friend of mine who goes by the name Tony Bontana, has a project called SPEW, which is his hardcore punk/ experimental side project. He recently got bookings for some half hour sets under the name SPEW, and for these sets he decided that for the second 15 minutes, he wanted to do an improvisational piece. After discussing this idea with him we decided to invite a friend and collaborator of ours Josh (Jkarri) (who is a very talented guitarist/ producer/ general artist-composer) to join the project. We came up with the plan for Josh & I to create a base layer track for the set, that we would be able to improvise over (with Tony on vocals, Josh on guitar, and myself on the microKorg, as well as controlling the mixing desk connected to Ableton which will run all the inputs (guitar, vocals & synth) over the base layer track that Josh & I made.
The shows that were booked happen to fall on the same weekend as our Gallery 46 exhibition, and we think it would be a fitting situation for us to bring our experimental improvisation into a gallery space as we feel it is a unique experience that would fit well in the situation.
