Comfort in regularity

‘comfort in regularity’ is something within the idea of ‘the relationship between rhythm and relationships’ that I would like to explore further in how it relates to the attitudes and actions within certain cultures. This was sparked by the realisation of this correlation, when thinking about Western European cultures love for regularity in music and exactness, rules and principles that have been followed, with most influence in music outside of these rules often originating from outside of our own cultures.

until a rhythm is understood (significantly when it is a rhythm different to those which the listener is used to hearing), the listener may feel a slight discomfort, as they don’t know where the beat is going to land or how this rhythm is working etc…

Similarly, until a culture is understood, the outsider may feel a slight discomfort with the culture, and if this outsider is ignorant they might think that the culture doesn’t make sense or is for some reason inferior. I feel that it is the historic ignorance combined with a false sense of supremacy that has caused the white European to historically misunderstand foreign cultures.
