collaboration post 10 – framework

Based on some of the teachings of theoretical frameworks in relation to this collaboration unit, we worked on our sounds in order to guide perception, to draw the player into the narrative, to direct the eye of the player, to establish/ clarify the point of view and also to clarify the subject.

The perception is guided by the culmination of many aspects of the sound as well as of course visuals, however I feel perception is more the combination of how these things work together.

The audience is drawn into the narrative with both subtle atmospheric sounds that give a sense of place, as well as sounds that appear to be diegetic, that are linked to the narrative, such as footsteps and doors opening, and thuds upon impact. Sounds like these may not be directly noticeable but the lack of them will be more noticeable, which is what we want to avoid.

The eye is being directed by the objects that the character interacts with and these sounds being of the most prominence as the audience will automatically see the movement, while hearing the sound at the same time, and therefore their eyes will go to automatically focus on this interaction.

  1. Guiding perception
  2. Drawing the audience into the narrative
  3. Directing the eye
  4. Establishing or clarifying the point of view
  5. Clarifying subject
